The Tower, the iconic symbol of Chapoquoit, was erected in 1895 by the original developer of the Island, Charles Henry Jones. Much more about him is available on the Island History pages. The Tower operated as part of a private water system built to serve the first home on the Island, Beachstone (#53), which was built on the edge of the adjacent lot. The Island was tied into town water in the 1930s and the property was left abandoned for a few decades until it was sold together with another adjoining property and the Tower House was built.
The 1976 redrawing of the Island plot plan was done before the Tower House was built, but it is shown on a second redrawing in 1978, as can be seen on our Historical Map Viewport.
The Tower House was the brainchild of Michael Jackson, late father of the current owner, who built it together with his wife, the late Leslie Jones Jackson, a Charles H Jones granddaughter.
